Under Australian law employers are vicariously liable for the actions of their employees
where those actions are committed while acting within the scope of their employment.
For example an employer could be held liable for loss or injury caused by an employee
driving a company vehicle without a valid licence.
In addition, accidents, employees losing their licences and public complaints if
the vehicles are identifiable all have a real cost and disturb the day to day running
of your organisation.
For these reasons we recommend that you request a Traffic Check on all applicants
who will be required to drive company vehicles—before you hire them—as
part of your risk management procedures.
